Park and manor at Sósirét, Gyöngyöstartján

About 3 kilometres to the north of the village of Gyöngyöstarján, at Sósi-rét (Sósi Meadow), one's attention is caught by a pretty little mansion in the middle of a neat park. The park, which surrounds this former hunting seat, was formed partly by preserving the beautiful trees of the original oak forest, and partly by introducing various exotic species. Close to the building, following the example of French parks, they planted many evergreens and grew nicely-trimmed box hedges. Among the oldest (about 150-200-year-old) Turkey oaks and common oaks, they continuously planted Scots and Austrian pines, Virginian junipers, purple beeches and numerous other evergreen and decidous tree species and shrub species. The park, which covers 4 hectares, has been protected since 1978.
